Eric Verdin, MD
Eric Verdin, MD, is the head of the Laboratory of Molecular Virology at the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology, of which he is associate director; and a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Verdin graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Liege, Belgium. He obtained his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and has held research positions at the University of Brussels, National Institutes of Health, and the Picower Institute for Medical Research.
Research in Dr. Verdin's laboratory focuses on the mechanism of HIV transcription. Most recently, the laboratory has focused on identifying immune modulators that inhibit HIV transcription and on the mechanism of HIV latency. A significant part of Verdin's lab effort is also directed to understanding the role of the chromatin environment on transcriptional regulation and, in particular, the biology of histone deacetylases.
